“Cannot start service from the command line or a debugger…” Error Fix

This is a classic Dell error that those with new Dell machines that come with the default OS . You get this error when:

• You install the dell support agent
• Use the default Dell image that comes with the support agent
• Have multiple profiles configured and you installed the dell support agent

**You will get this error on one profile but not the other

The full error is:
“Cannot start service from the command line or a debugger.  A windows service must first be installed (using installutil.exe) and then started with the ServerExplorer, Windows Services Administrative tool or the NET START command”

This error can get you on a goosechase trying to find which service is causing it since it does not tell you. Its the dell support agent service.

Solution

Go to “Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features´and uninstall the Dell support agent.
